COVID -19 Highways Best Practice
The health, safety and wellbeing of all those who work and travel on the Strategic Road Network (SRN) is paramount. Highways England and its supply chain’s approach to the COVID-19 challenges is focused on safely maintaining our critical services at all times and minimising the impact on our supply chain, our customers and our staff. In letters from the Secretary of State and from the Transport Minister for Roads, Buses and Places, the government recognises the important part that the construction industry has in supporting the country through this crisis and it has been clear that the industry should continue to operate in accordance with the Public Health England and industry guidance.
In order for our sites to continue and fully comply with the hygiene and social distancing guidelines our teams have had to adapt and overcome in such a short space of time and activities have been modified to achieve this. As we transition through to a new normal operating regime, moving safely to a fully productive business incorporating the social distancing requirements, the objective of the Highways Safety Hub group is to review and collate the very best practices out there on our sites and across the Industry and to share via this site in order to create a “tool box” of solutions for different operations and trades working in compliance with social distancing measures and the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP Version 7) issued by the Construction Leadership Council.
