Head Protection

Head Protection on Galliford Try Highways Projects must conform to EN12492 and EN397.
All head protection should be clean, free from defect or damage and correctly adjusted to fit the wearer.  The chin strap must be fastened at all times whilst on site. Due to the possibility of chemical reactions weakening the shell of a safety helmet, unauthorised stickers and labels should not be applied, nor should they be marked with paint, felt tip pens or other markers.  In addition, all head protection should be stored out of sunlight or other UV radiation e.g. not on the dashboard of a van.
If required only fleece linings or neck protection sunshades approved for use by the helmet supplier are to be used. The use of unapproved items such as the hood of a hoody may impair the protection performance of the helmet during impact.

Safety Helmet Colours

Galliford Try Highways promotes the BuildUK Safety Helmet Colour Scheme and as such the following helmet colour coding system is to be adopted for the defined roles.
  • White - General Use, Manager, Client, Competent Operative
  • Black - Site Supervisors
  • Orange - Slinger / Signaller
  • Blue - Inexperienced Person / Visitor. Issue will be determined following an assessment of an individuals experience at site induction. Applies to all including suppliers, clients and others
Reflective markings and role specific helmet decals are permitted;. First Aid, Fire Marshall, Coloured high visibility vests are permitted to identify other roles e.g. vehicle marshall.

JSP is the preferred brand for Galliford Try employees.
